There are moments in history that we all remember. We believe we face one of those defining moments today.
On February 24, Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia first massed 190,000 troops on Ukraine’s borders, surrounding it from the North, East, and South. The following week, Russia launched the largest European mobilization of forces since World War II. Putin’s army has killed thousands of innocent Ukrainians and has driven 1 million more from their homes. The Russian military has shelled hospitals, schools, apartments, concert halls, and even the Kharkiv Cathedral. Nothing is sacred and nowhere is safe.
So what can we do?
Magellan Transport Logistics – (A Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business) & Magellan Transport Inc. – (A Woman Owned Small Business) with employees, customers, and carrier partners that have family and friends in Ukraine will donate $15,000 to the Magellan Ukraine Relief Fund, and will match any additional donation up to $50.
Here is a firsthand account of what the last two weeks have been like from a Magellan employee who has family in Ukraine.
“I’m Ukrainian and still have a lot of my family and many friends there, so February 24th forward were probably the hardest days of my life. If I could save and help everyone – I would. I have donated and mailed all I could to Poland as I have friends from church that flew there and helping at the border right now. My mornings don’t start with coffee, but with checking on all my relatives and friends to ensure they are alive. Part of my family was in Kiev (most were able to escape this past weekend to the western Ukraine, for now, while we wait to hear back from lawyers on how to get visa to US. One of my aunts is still in Kiev, she is a Doctor and obligated to stay) and other part of my family is in Chernihiv. The city I was born in. My grandma, cousin, aunt and uncle are still there in shelters as city is surrounded and they are unable to escape yet. Evacuation is not possible despite the fact it was agreed upon during diplomatic discussions.
